ZERO44 adds carbon insetting alongside FuelEU management

ZERO44 has launched a Carbon Insetting module that allows shipowners, ship managers and charterers to manage carbon insetting alongside FuelEU Maritime compliance within the same platform.

The module uses Bunker Delivery Note and Proof of Sustainability data already used for compliance reporting to calculate the value of individual fuel volumes as either FuelEU surplus or an insetting certificate, based on current surplus and insetting prices.

When a fuel volume is allocated to insetting, the system deducts it from the vessel’s FuelEU compliance balance, so volumes reserved for insetting are not also counted towards FuelEU targets.

The system also provides the data required for insetting to be transferred to the operator’s chosen registry, avoiding duplicate entry between systems.

“Every tonne of low-carbon fuel an operator buys is money that can come back through FuelEU surplus or through insetting, but rarely both at the same value,” said Friederike Hesse, Co-Founder and Managing Director at ZERO44.

“Our customers can now see, for every bunkering event, which route pays more today and act on it. That turns a cost they were already carrying into revenue they were leaving on the table.”
