SEA.AI integrates target detection with searchlights

SEA.AI has integrated its Sentry maritime machine vision system with Carlisle & Finch’s SmartVIEW Gateway, allowing a searchlight to automatically turn towards and track targets detected by the system.

The integration is designed to support applications including person-overboard searches, security operations and the detection of unlit vessels or other objects that may be difficult to identify visually at night or in poor visibility.

SEA.AI uses thermal and low-light cameras with AI-based object detection to identify targets including people in the water, unlit craft and floating debris.

Once an operator selects a target detected by Sentry, the SmartVIEW Gateway directs a connected Carlisle & Finch searchlight to its bearing and maintains the beam on the target as it moves, using live detection and tracking data from SEA.AI.

The integration also provides slew-to-cue and active tracking of targets within SEA.AI’s field of view, reducing the need for operators to manually follow a moving target using the searchlight joystick.

“Detection only matters if it leads to action,” said Marcus Warrelmann, CEO, SEA.AI.

“Whether the crew is watching for a security threat, tracking another vessel, or searching for someone in the water, Sentry can spot a target before it becomes visible to the naked eye. Thanks to Carlisle & Finch’s engineering, the searchlight can now follow that target automatically.”
