GTMaritime adds tool to link fleet communications with operational tasks

GTMaritime has launched GT Connect, a collaboration platform designed to connect communications between vessels and shore teams with the people, tasks, cases and documents associated with each operational issue.

The platform is intended to address the fragmentation that can arise when operational information is spread across email, documents, individual users and separate systems, making it difficult for fleet teams to establish what has been agreed, who is responsible and whether an issue has been resolved.

GT Connect combines communications and team collaboration with structured operational tools, linking conversations directly to vessels, people and tasks. This provides teams with a shared view of operational activity and the actions arising from day-to-day communications.

“GT Connect really started with a problem we kept coming back to. Maritime teams exchange a huge amount of operational information every day, but the conversation and the action that follows can easily become separated,” said Jamie Jones, Managing Director, GTMaritime.

“Rather than starting with a technology and asking how it could be applied to shipping, we started with the operational problem and worked forward from there. GT Connect is about keeping the conversation connected to the people involved, the actions that need to happen and the wider operational context, so teams have a clearer view of what needs to happen next and who is responsible for it.”

The system has been developed specifically for maritime operations, taking into account factors including variable vessel connectivity and the need to coordinate decisions between geographically dispersed vessel and shore teams.
