United Wind Logistics’ module deck carrier VestVind has agreed a deal to implement the ABB Ability Marine Advisory System – OCTOPUS software system, to support real-time decision making and optimise routing based on vessel motions resulting from weather and wave conditions.
By minimising unwanted vessel motions and accelerations the software is expected to offer improved protection for high-value payloads in transit, such as large windfarm turbines, foundations and blades en route to offshore installation sites, while also increasing vessel operational efficiency.
Installation of the application on board the 130m VestVind follows successful implementation of the system on board United Wind’s module deck carriers BoldWind and BraveWind, both delivered in 2020.

“As demand for larger wind farm components grows and we are tasked with transporting heavier and ever-more expensive cargoes, the importance of motion monitoring and forecasting only increases. We look forward to reaping the same safety and efficiency benefits onboard VestVind as we have secured for our newbuildings BoldWind and BraveWind.”
The ABB Ability Marine Fleet Portal will also be available to VestVind as part of the new deal, allowing vessel and cargo owners on shore to view the status and location of assets online and access ongoing reports from the ship.
