Korea-based maritime tech provider marineworks has joined the Internet of Ships Open Platform (IoS-OP), the ship IoT data sharing initiative run by ClassNK subsidiary Ship Data Center (ShipDC).
marineworks is an ICT company providing smart ship systems that monitor and analyse a vessel’s condition in real-time to create an overview of its operating environment and risk level.
marineworks is the first Korean company to join the Japanese-led initiative, and will provide capabilities for transmission and analysis of ship operational data within IoS-OP. The new member will also work to build awareness about the IoS-OP initiative on a wider basis, the company said.
IoS-OP is an open platform that enables the sharing of ship operation data among shipbuilders, manufacturers, and related service providers. The platform consists of a data centre for collection and access to data, governed by an ‘IoS-OP Terms of Use’ document which includes the rules on data distribution that have been agreed by stakeholders.
With the addition of marineworks, the number of organisations in the IoS-OP Consortium member association has now reached 61.
