The University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) has agreed a deal with Kongsberg Digital to develop a new range of cloud-based simulation training exercises for the international maritime education market, delivered via Kongsberg’s K-Sim Connect platform.
This is the first commercial agreement with an external partner for Kongsberg on cloud-based training and will enable USN to develop its own training products and distribute them via Kongsberg’s digital infrastructure.
The partnership aligns with wider initiatives supported by Innovation Norway to address the global need for accessible simulation-based training for teaching and practising navigation, as well as the COAST (Centre of Excellence in Maritime Simulator Training and Assessment) project, for which USN is the host institution.
“The move from physical simulators to cloud-based solutions will enhance our educational programmes and make us ready for the future of maritime professional training,” said Petter Aasen, Rector at USN.
“The teaching methods and technology developed through this partnership will strengthen the quality and relevance of maritime training, both continuing and advancing education for a working life that is changing rapidly. At the same time, it enables USN to strengthen our position as an international provider.”
Cloud simulator systems will also be adapted for post-qualification training and will contribute to the process of regular certificate renewals, the partners note.
