Six new LNG carrier vessels being built for the Arctic LNG 2 project in Russia’s Arctic waters are to be supplied with a range of navigation and communications systems delivered by Wärtsilä.
The orders covering the six ships were placed by Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine Engineering (DSME) in April, with options for an additional two vessels.
The contract includes the installation of a multifunction display system consisting of workstations for ECDIS, Navi-Radar, a Navi-Conning navigation information display system, a Bridge Alert Management System (BAMS), and the Wärtsilä Navi-Planner for route planning.
The workstations are fully integrated into a single unified infrastructure, which allows the main operational functions to be duplicated to support improved safety during ice navigation. The delivery will also include Iridium satellite communication systems for connection with shore.

The equipment is scheduled for delivery to the yard commencing in September of this year.
