LEO satellite operator OneWeb has announced the successful completion of testing of a Kymeta u8-based flat panel terminal on its network, with the single aperture antenna achieving downlink and uplink speeds of more than 200 Mbps / 40Mbps respectively.
The tests involved a series of LEO satellite acquisition, tracking and throughput measurements in Toulouse, France, connected to the network via Intellian LEO gateway antennas. Intellian is already a OneWeb antenna partner, having agreed a $73 million terminal development contract earlier this year.
Confirmation of the Kymeta unit’s capabilities will allow the u8 to become the first commercially-available electronically steered flat panel antenna to interoperate with the OneWeb satellite constellation. The terminal is compatible with both low Earth orbit (LEO) and geostationary (GEO) satellite networks, and supports fixed and mobile services.
