Pacific International Lines (PIL) in Singapore has begun working with Lloyd’s Register fleet optimisation company i4 Insight on data-drive emissions reduction and vessel performance improvements, following the agreement of a four-year fleet-wide contract.
PIL recently opened a Centre for Maritime Efficiency (CME) for voyage performance monitoring, which will powered by the i4 Platform and uses shoreside routing services to optimise ship operations.
“As PIL continues to grow our container shipping business in key regions around the world, sustainability is also a key focus,” said PIL General Manager, Operations & Procurement, Abhishek Chawla.
“Being a more operationally efficient shipping line would significantly help us to reduce our carbon footprint. With LR as one of our partners in the CME, we are aligned in our goal to leverage technology and digitalisation in our operations for enhanced operational effectiveness.”
The move is the latest step in an ongoing digitalisation overhaul at PIL, with the company having also recently begun rolling out video analytics and surveillance systems from iO3 on 60 vessels in its fleet for remote vessel monitoring.
