China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and classification society DNV have established a new Future Ship Joint Innovation Centre in Shanghai, which will see both companies cooperate on innovation projects in decarbonisation and digitalisation, as well as provide technical support services to the maritime industry.
The Centre will be established and operated by SDARI (Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute) and DNV China following the signing of the Strategic Cooperation Agreement Framework.
Initial activities will include the creation of three joint work groups on decarbonisation, digital twins and smart shipping.
“The establishment of this Centre is an important step for a deepened strategic cooperation between CSSC and DNV, China and Europe,” said CSSC Vice President Sheng Jigang.
“Additionally, the mutual trust and advantages gained will pave the way for an in-depth technical exchange between SDARI and DNV China, accelerating research on green and intelligent shipping technology towards global maritime transformation.”
