Mapsea, a provider of maritime technology services combining AI and sensor technology, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korea Shipmasters Forum (KSMA) to collaborate on future development of its systems.
The two organisations will work together on technologies to support improved maritime digitalisation, including next-generation navigation software and training of crew members for future autonomous ships.
Other research activities will include an exploration of different methods to improve work efficiency in maritime operations, the partners said.
Start-up Mapsea is in the process of developing a maritime IT system incorporating voyage planning and optimisation based on analysis of the motion of the ship, using that data to predict future movements using Kalman filters and statistical analysis.
Mapsea’s Navigation application was launched in February 2024, and the company’s systems incorporate weather information, AIS data and machine learning to monitor vessel traffic and automatically recommend the optimal route considering any detected hazards.
