Rotterdam-based Portbase has announced the launch of its new Portbase Marketplace, a central hub providing access to port logistics services.
The marketplace will include access to the Portbase services provided in Dutch ports for the past 20 years, as well as a range of new offerings delivered through collaboration between Portbase and its ecosystem of community members.
“With the Marketplace, we are introducing an online channel where port logistics solutions can be provided and found centrally. And that extends beyond our ‘own’ services,” said Portbase CEO Iwan van der Wolf.
“We want to take our mission of facilitating supply chains via the Dutch ports as seamlessly, securely and sustainably as possible to the next level. We regard it as our task to spur on and support the acceleration of digitalisation in the port logistics chains. In our neutral role, we can facilitate that for all the parties involved.”
“Our focus remains on supporting the core processes so that businesses and organisations can continue to choose the Dutch ports as part of their supply chains. However, we see a growing desire within our community to do more themselves in terms of data, innovation and collaboration. We applaud that development, but it’s up to companies to make the running. Ours is a facilitating role.”
Portbase is offering part of its existing infrastructure to allow partners to create products and services for the Marketplace, offering agnostic support in areas such as data storage and data conversion, identification, authorisation and authentication.
The company notes that data owners themselves will decide how their data is used and who they collaborate with, retaining complete control over their digital information.
The Port of Rotterdam has assisted in the creation of the Marketplace by providing part of the funding, as well as market validation and market strategy support. The initial launch focuses on facilitating three specific themes: Port Call Optimisation, Supply Chain Visibility and Emission Free Ports.
