€8.5m in new funding for ocean data firm north.io

German ocean data company north.io has announced that it has received €8.5 million in new funding following a seed investment round led by Hamburg-based VAERING.

north.io has developed a SaaS platform called TrueOcean used to access, visualise and apply ocean data within offshore projects. The company has collaborated with notable partners including NVIDIA and research organisations such as the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel.

“We are very happy to welcome VAERING as a partner,” said Jann Wendt, CEO and Founder of north.io.

“VAERING ‘s investment marks a significant milestone for us. Their focus on sustainability and entrepreneurial collaboration aligns perfectly with our mission to transform maritime industries through cutting-edge software technology.”

“Together, we aim to expand our global impact and accelerate our growth, particularly in areas like offshore wind, ocean digitalisation and critical infrastructure protection.”

VAERING joins existing investors Possehl Group as stakeholders in the company.
