Carras Hellas competes satcom upgrade

Greek shipping company Carras Hellas has completed an upgrade of its fleet communication systems, implementing Starlink through a partnership with service provider MarPoint.

The satcom system has been installed alongside MarPoint’s Outdoor 5G Router across the fleet, which utilises Global Sim Maritime Data Sim cards for GSM connectivity near shore in over 130 countries.

The integration, led by Carras Hellas’ IT team, also leverages MikroTik routing to integrate with MarPoint’s system.

“Our partnership with MarPoint has revolutionised our fleet’s communication capabilities, elevating Carras Hellas to the forefront of maritime technology,” said Nikos Patronas, IT Manager at Carras Hellas.

“The seamless integration of MarPoint’s Outdoor 5G Router and Starlink has not only ensured unparalleled connectivity but also transformed our operational efficiency and crew welfare.”

In related news, MarPoint has also confirmed that it received renewed approvals from class society ABS certifying that its Evo2 system is compliant with the latest IACS UR E26 and E27 cyber security requirements.

“We are committed to providing our customers with the highest level of cyber security,” said Nikos Alafodimos, CTO of MarPoint.

“These latest revisions reflect our dedication to meeting the evolving regulatory demands of the maritime industry and ensuring our customers can operate with confidence in a highly regulated and fast-changing environment.”
