Knutsen Group upgrades fleet connectivity with hybrid set-up

Knutsen Group has expanded its communications network capabilities, deploying two Starlink LEO (low earth orbit) terminals alongside its onboard VSAT for each vessel in its fleet of 59 existing ships and 19 newbuildings, to improve digital operations and crew connectivity.

The Sealink NextGen system being provided by Marlink integrates LEO, VSAT, and MSS to provide high-bandwidth, low-latency connectivity.

Knutsen will also trial Marlink’s SD-WAN technology as part of the deployment project, to optimise network performance.

“As a specialised operator focused on safety and efficiency, Knutsen Group works with trusted partners, which made Marlink the natural choice to support our digital transformation,” said Thomas Svendsen, IT Manager, Knutsen Group.

“Expanding the range of applications available for business functions and crew welfare will create new opportunities for Knutsen Group going forward.”
