Chantiers de l’Atlantique partners with NAPA to improve digital ship design

Shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique has agreed a deal with NAPA to co-develop digital workflows to improve hull design efficiency using 3D software.

The collaboration will integrate NAPA Steel, a 3D structural design tool, into the shipyard’s production design process, to improve coordination between engineers and naval architects from the initial design phase through to production.

Linking structural, propulsion, electrical, and general arrangement teams, the system aims to improve communication in shipbuilding projects, with the integration of 3D models across design stages allowing earlier access to structural data.

The agreement follows completion of a pilot that demonstrated time and cost savings from using the software to improve ship design workflows.

“As a world leader in highly advanced vessels, such as cruise and navy ships and offshore installations, managing design complexity is business critical,” said Laurent Castaing, CEO at Chantiers de l’Atlantique.

“This requires efficient and streamlined workflows throughout a vessel’s design and production phases. Using agile tools and digital processes is at the heart of this, enabling our teams to take innovation to the next level and respond to our customers’ needs for efficient and future-proof designs.”
