Folk Maritime adds smart container technology

Folk Maritime, a Saudi Arabia-based feeder and regional liner services provider, has implemented ORBCOMM’s satellite-based container tracking and monitoring technology across its operations, to improve supply chain visibility and cargo protection.

The system will provide real-time and historical location data, door sensors for security alerts, and analytics to optimise operations, routing, and asset utilisation.

“We’re always looking to push the boundaries of what’s possible. ORBCOMM’s technology will enable us to further digitalise our shipping operations so we can solve logistical problems, optimise shipment tracking and improve our cargo integrity and protection,” said Mohamed Badawi, Folk Maritime’s Chief Operating Officer.

“Plus, we’ll be able to improve environmental sustainability—which is deeply rooted in our DNA—by optimising operations, routing and asset utilisation to decrease energy use and carbon emissions.”

ORBCOMM says that it supplied more than one million dry container monitoring devices in 2024, in addition to tracking 600,000 reefer containers since 2007.
