Hafnia and Studio 30 50 launch FuelSure to improve bunker transparency

Hafnia has partnered with Studio 30 50 to launch FuelSure, a digital platform designed to improve transparency in the bunker fuel market.

The system centralises supplier performance data, integrating real-time vessel feedback, fuel quality analyses, and financial loss tracking to provide an assessment of different fuel suppliers and help users to address issues such as delivery discrepancies and unreliable fuel quality.

Data is collected on barge condition, delivery accuracy, and chemical fuel composition, while the financial impact of poor-quality bunkers is also tracked, such as through engine damage and operational delays.

“Hidden costs in bunker supply have plagued the maritime world for decades, with unreliable fuel quality that can cause mechanical breakdowns or even vessel detentions and delivery discrepancies that can prove both costly and imply foul play somewhere in the delivery chain,” said Peter Martin Grünwaldt, VP Head of Bunkers at Hafnia.

“While bunkers themselves remain costly, these additional factors create significant losses on both a short-term and industry-wide scale. FuelSure addresses these issues head-on by centralising supplier reviews and performance metrics, empowering our crews and trading teams to make data-driven decisions that reduce risks and ultimately benefit the entire global supply chain.”

FuelSure is currently in beta testing to gather industry feedback ahead of a wider rollout, which will include pilot programmes with selected fleets, partnerships with testing labs and classification societies, and phased deployments at key global ports.
