Ava Ocean has agreed a deal to install Inmarsat’s NexusWave connectivity system on its new scallop harvesting vessel, extending the companies’ partnership as the Norwegian firm continues to develop its sustainable seabed operations in the Barents Sea.
The NexusWave service will replace Fleet Xpress on Ava Ocean’s new vessel, combining multiple network types including Ka-band, LEO, LTE, and L-band. Integration of the ViaSat-3 Ka-band network from Inmarsat’s parent company is also planned when the service is available.
Ava Ocean, formerly Tau Tech, says that improved connectivity will support operational efficiency and crew safety while also providing welfare benefits for the vessel’s 30-plus crew during extended deployments in remote waters.
“Our unique fishing operation takes place in the Barents Sea, where Fleet Xpress has been valuable to maintain stable communications supporting both operations and crew welfare,” said Preben Molnes, Operation Manager, Ava Ocean.
“For the new vessel, we look forward to upgrading to Inmarsat’s NexusWave, further improving communication channels onboard.”
