Speedcast updates SIGMA platform with new architecture and edge features

Speedcast has released a new version of its SIGMA intelligent edge network management system, introducing an updated architecture and expanded orchestration features to support management of remote connectivity infrastructure.

The new release includes a redesigned base operating system and a cloud-native orchestration platform, developed to automate updates and policy-driven configurations.

The platform supports integration with services such as Starlink and OneWeb, as well as traditional satellite and terrestrial connectivity, and enables deployment of multi-vendor SD-WAN and enterprise applications. SIGMA also acts as a foundation for Speedcast’s containerised application marketplace.

“The new architecture provides the backbone for our SIGMA marketplace, offering managed containerized or virtual machine deployments of applications that customers can leverage for their digital operations,” said Dee Schwalb, Chief Product Officer at Speedcast.

“Starting with our crew experience and internet café applications, we’ll be expanding the marketplace offerings in areas such as computer vision and video streaming, enhanced cybersecurity capabilities, and customer-selected VMs.”

“This is the beginning of an era where customers can effortlessly add, manage and deploy complex solution sets securely throughout application lifecycles.”

Speedcast says the updated system also helps customers align with the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) cybersecurity requirements E26 and E27, which introduce new standards for shipboard computer-based systems. SIGMA’s SASE-based architecture supports secure application deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management in line with these requirements.
