Pacific Basin to implement NexusWave on dry bulk vessels

Pacific Basin Shipping has agreed a deal to install Inmarsat’s NexusWave connectivity service on an initial five vessels, as part of ongoing efforts to improve digital operations and crew welfare across its dry bulk fleet.

The Hong Kong-based operator will use the system to enhance ship-to-shore connectivity for business applications and seafarer access, supporting digital strategies focused on operational efficiency, regulatory compliance and improved communications.

NexusWave offers network bonding capabilities to maintain connections across multiple links, dynamically routing traffic to optimise performance.

“Our seafarers’ wellbeing is a top priority, and this service will optimise communications channels to secure the fastest available connection to their loved ones ashore,” said Samar Das, Head of Technical Procurement, Pacific Basin Shipping.

“The capabilities of NexusWave also align closely with our expanding use of digital applications across our fleet for better decision-making and efficiencies.”

Inmarsat reports that real-world testing of the system has demonstrated download speeds of up to 340 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 80 Mbps, with uptime exceeding 99.9%.

“Pacific Basin is a global force in dry bulk shipping and their commitment to NexusWave underscores their forward-thinking approach,” said Justin Yi, Regional Director APAC Sales, Inmarsat Maritime.
