Quvia has expanded its Network Capacity Controller (NCC) system with the addition of Dynamic Bandwidth Switch and Consumption-Based Management, introducing new capabilities to support better real-time bandwidth allocation and forecasting.
The NCC system, launched in 2024, is designed to manage Quality of Experience (QoE) at the network edge through AI-driven orchestration, enabling satellite bandwidth to be shared dynamically across a fleet rather than fixed per endpoint.
The new functions build on the existing system to improve its ability to address evolving traffic patterns and cost-control requirements.
Dynamic Bandwidth Switch reallocates capacity between upstream and downstream links in real time, adjusting the bandwidth split based on application needs and current demand. This aims to avoid underutilised channels and preserve QoE for services such as video calls, even under asymmetric load conditions.
For vessels operating under rate-based contracts like CIR plans, the system manages the bandwidth allocation within contracted limits, to improve overall utilisation and maintain service levels.
The Consumption-Based Management feature uses predictive analytics to forecast demand and align bandwidth availability with usage patterns. It enables bandwidth planning on an hourly to monthly basis and introduces soft caps to manage quota consumption.
If demand spikes temporarily, the system can prioritise critical traffic while throttling non-essential applications to maintain QoE.
