NAL Research, SGM Technology, and Tschudi Shipping partner on GNSS-alternative navigation

NAL Research, SGM Technology, and Tschudi Shipping Company have announced a strategic partnership to develop a new resilient navigation and tracking system for commercial shipping, designed to maintain operational safety in areas affected by GPS/GNSS disruption.

The system is based on NAL Research’s Assured Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (APNT) technologies, using Iridium’s L-band satellite service to provide a signal resistant to GNSS jamming and spoofing.

The partners aim to address growing safety concerns as incidents of signal interference continue to rise globally. According to NorthStandard, maritime authorities in some regions have reported a 350% increase in affected vessels over the past six months.

“As a fifth-generation shipping company, we’ve witnessed the evolution of maritime navigation, but never before have we faced technological threats like GPS jamming and spoofing,” said Felix Tschudi, Chairman, Tschudi Group.

“These disruptions pose a serious risk to vessel safety, crew welfare, and the reliability of global trade routes. The industry must act collectively to address these vulnerabilities to protect maritime personnel and assets.”

Trials of the system are currently underway.
