ABS and Saronic to collaborate on autonomous vessel standards

ABS has agreed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Saronic Technologies to work on the development of technical requirements for autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) and related classification services.

The agreement will see the two companies cooperate on projects aimed at advancing autonomous capabilities for maritime applications, including the refinement of safety and operational standards for this emerging class of vessel.

“Advancing autonomous technologies and uncrewed systems unlocks safer, more efficient operations across the maritime sector,” said Christopher Wiernicki, ABS Chairman and CEO.

“We are delighted to work together with Saronic to foster innovation in this space.”

ABS has previously published requirements for autonomous and remote-control functions, providing guidance for the design, construction and operation of these systems in maritime and offshore industries.
