KCC to share vessel data with HUB Ocean to assess biodiversity impacts

Klaveness Combination Carriers (KCC) has agreed a collaboration with HUB Ocean on the Ocean Sensitive Areas (OSA) initiative, aimed at assessing how shipping operations directly affect marine ecosystems.

The project will combine KCC’s historical trading routes and vessel speed data with global biodiversity maps on HUB Ocean’s data platform, providing insight into where operations intersect with sensitive marine areas.

The partners say the initiative will support improved routing and speed management decisions while also identifying practical measures such as reducing underwater noise.

“We are pleased to partner with HUB Ocean on the OSA initiative as we explore new avenues that can contribute to improving shipping’s environmental footprint beyond decarbonisation,” said Engebret Dahm, CEO of KCC.

“The initiative, alongside others, will give us the opportunity to test new approaches and improve data accessibility in ways that can benefit the wider industry.”
