Kpler to acquire Bridgeton to bolster commodities trading intelligence

Kpler has agreed to acquire Bridgeton Research Group, expanding its trade intelligence technology offering for commodity markets, including maritime-linked energy and dry bulk flows.

Bridgeton Research Group develops predictive models that analyse and forecast the behaviour of Commodity Trading Advisors and other systematic, rules-based investment strategies across some 200 global markets. These strategies are a significant driver of price movements in futures markets for oil, gas and other commodities that underpin seaborne trade.

Kpler’s platform is used by shipping companies, charterers, traders and analysts to track cargo movements, vessel activity and commodity flows. The company says that integrating Bridgeton’s modelling capabilities will allow it to combine physical supply-and-demand intelligence with analysis of financial market flows, providing customers with a more complete view of factors influencing commodity markets tied closely to shipping activity.

For maritime stakeholders, this includes improved context around price volatility, trading behaviour and market positioning that can affect freight demand, voyage economics and bunker exposure.

“Our mission has always been to help our clients trade smarter,” said Mark Cunningham, CEO of Kpler.

“By bringing Bridgeton into the Kpler family, we’re expanding the dimensions of insight we provide, uniting physical fundamentals with systematic flow analysis to deliver even more value to the organisations that rely on us, while laying the groundwork for Kpler’s evolution into a broader market-intelligence platform.”
