Norwegian technology group Kongsberg has received formal shareholder approval to spin off its maritime division into an independent entity, Kongsberg Maritime, with the stand-alone company scheduled to be listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange on April 23, 2026.
Following the separation, the remaining business areas, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and Kongsberg Discovery, will continue to operate as KONGSBERG. The maritime company, which generates over 80% of its revenue from the global market, will remain headquartered in Norway.
The Norwegian state intends to maintain its majority shareholding of 50.004 per cent in both companies. Since the split was first announced in October 2025, Kongsberg Maritime has restructured its management team and divisional structure to prepare for its future as a stand-alone firm.
“This was one of many milestones we will go through, and it was good to have this step confirmed,” said Lisa Edvardsen Haugan, incoming CEO of the new company.
“At Kongsberg Maritime, we are ready to take the next step and stand on our own feet. We are uniquely positioned to take part in the upcoming value creation in the global maritime sector. We have the people, the knowledge, and the innovation power needed to solve the technological challenges the maritime sector will face in the coming years.”
The new board of directors, chaired by Per Arthur Sørlie, has begun transitioning the maritime unit into an independent governance structure ahead of the spring listing.
