Gelectric has announced an update to its Data Catcher offering to help shipowners convert manual vessel reports into structured standardised datasets using data definitions from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Compendium on Facilitation and Electronic Business.
The system allows daily email reports to be automatically organised in alignment with the Standardised Vessel Dataset (SVD) for Noon Reports released by Smart Maritime Council, built around IMO data numbers as a central standard reference.
Gelectric’s application aims to allow vessels to maintain existing reporting workflows while the system extracts data from traditional noon, arrival and departure emails. The information is mapped to the SVD structure to ensure interoperability with software used by any other stakeholders employing the standards.
A key feature of the tool is an automated validation layer designed to identify and correct manual entry errors, such as fuel consumption inconsistencies or Global Positioning System (GPS) typos. This process also ensures that the datasets are ready for use with regulatory frameworks, including FuelEU Maritime, the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII).
“Many fleets have years of valuable data hidden in their daily reports, but it is often too messy to be useful,” said Efil Bengisu Saygı, Chief Executive Officer of Gelectric.
“By aligning Data Catcher with the SVD standards, we are making that data instantly usable. We’re providing a bridge that lets operators keep their current habits while gaining the data quality required for today’s complex regulatory environment.”
The system is currently in active use on more than 20 oceangoing vessels, the company says.
