Subsea and marine service provider DOF is to become the first customer for Kongsberg Discovery’s latest electromagnetic sensing technology, which will be integrated into a new HUGIN Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV).
The HUGIN AUV has a depth rating of 3,000 metres and will be deployed in Brazil to support deepwater survey and inspection activities for an oil and gas operator.
The vehicle will carry an integrated payload including the Kongsberg Listen system, an EM2042 multibeam echosounder, and a HISAS1032 synthetic aperture sonar. This combination supports high-resolution seabed mapping and detailed inspections of subsea infrastructure, such as pipelines and buried cables.
The Kongsberg Listen technology provides data in subsea environments where acoustic methods alone may be limited. This includes applications such as the evaluation of cathodic protection on pipelines and marine mineral exploration. The system was developed following the acquisition of electromagnetic sensing technology from Argeo.
“The acquisition of the new HUGIN 3000 represents an important step in expanding DOF’s autonomous capabilities in Brazil,” said Fabio Nobrega, Regional Survey Manager at DOF.
“The combination of the new Kongsberg Listen solution with all the other sensors strengthens our ability to perform survey operations with greater precision, efficiency, and safety. This investment reinforces DOF’s commitment to applying cutting-edge technology to support our clients and to further advance the use of AUV solutions in Brazilian waters.”
