ZeroNorth launches agentic AI for voyage optimisation

ZeroNorth has introduced Propel, an agentic AI application designed to automate operational tasks across voyage, vessel and fuel management workflows, with Cargill, Ultrabulk and CMB.TECH joining as launch partners.

The first version of Propel focuses on voyage optimisation, taking over manual coordination tasks including generating voyage plans, communicating with the vessel’s master, incorporating feedback and updating plans while keeping operators involved in decision making.

According to ZeroNorth, the AI agents can respond to changing operational conditions and carry out repetitive tasks, allowing operators to focus on decisions requiring human judgement.

The voyage optimisation agent has been used by ZeroNorth’s Professional Services team over the past three months and is now entering an early-access programme with Cargill, Ultrabulk and CMB.TECH.

“Our ambition with Propel is to help change the way shipping works by changing what technology can do inside maritime operations,” said Søren Andersen, CEO of ZeroNorth.

“There is immense potential to move towards operations that are more connected, continuous and precise, where technology takes on more of the coordination work and people can focus their judgement where it creates the greatest value.”

ZeroNorth says additional AI agents will be introduced over time, expanding Propel’s capabilities across voyage, vessel and fuel workflows. The company plans to test new functions with launch partners before wider commercial availability later in 2026.

“We’re proud to continue working with our long-standing partners at ZeroNorth to explore technologies that can modernise shipping, improve operational efficiency and help move the industry forward,” said James Lewis, Vice President Global Operations, Cargill Ocean Transportation.
