Port idle time assessment system launched

Maritime technology startup Intelligent Cargo Systems (formerly Cargo Mate) has launched a free self-assessment tool for container ship operators to assist in calculating how much port idle time is affecting their bunker consumption.

The tool calculates a port call efficiency rating based on the information provided, with those scoring below 80% likely to be able to make significant bunker savings through process improvement and better use of technology, the company says.

“As 2020 approaches the need to make marginal efficiency gains across every area of vessel operations is increasing,” says Nick Chubb, Head of Growth at Intelligent Cargo Systems.

“A staggering amount of fuel is currently being wasted across the world through poor port call efficiency. This tool gives ship operators a quick and easy way to understand the scale of the problem and some insight into what savings can be made through the use of port call optimisation technology.”

The Port Call Calculator has been developed to supplement Intelligent Cargo Systems’ CargoMate application, a port call optimisation system that forecasts cargo completion time and predicts the earliest time a ship can sail in any port worldwide.
