NYK to optimise uptime on LNG carrier with AI-powered analysis

NYK Shipmanagement in Singapore has signed a long-term Optimised Maintenance Agreement with Wärtsilä, to apply artificial intelligence (AI) in ensuring maximum uptime for one of its LNG carrier vessels.

The 13-year contract aims to support high levels of equipment reliability, with assured maintenance costs, for the ship’s three Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines.

Core to the deal is Wärtsilä’s Expert Insight system, which enables data-driven maintenance planning through real-time monitoring of equipment and systems, linked to AI and advanced diagnostics.

Real-time monitoring allows specialists at Wärtsilä Expertise Centres to provide proactive support for the vessel, with advice and suggestions for resolving potential operational disturbances and minimising unplanned servicing.

“Our lifecycle customer support approach, as emphasised by these agreements, is a value-adding benefit that works to lower operating costs, reduce fuel consumption, and support the customer in their decarbonisation journey,” said Henrik Wilhelms, Director, Agreement Sales, Wärtsilä Marine Power.

“We have enjoyed a long and close relationship with NYK group, and this agreement further strengthens the cooperation between our companies.”
