The POLARIS system developed by Japan Weather Association (JWA) has been integrated with the Inmarsat Fleet Data IoT platform, with JWA becoming an Inmarsat Certified Application Provider (CAP).
POLARIS is a weather and ocean data service for the maritime industry, delivering meteorological and oceanographic data to support optimisation of ship operations.
Global forecasts are available for up to 30 days, with data on wind, waves, swell and currents, updated four times per day.
A new interface dashboard has been created specifically for the new Fleet Data integration, JWA says. POLARIS is available as a stand-alone application or can be linked directly to a vessel’s navigation system, with data provided via a web API.
The link with Inmarsat’s infrastructure will widen the system’s overall data gathering capabilities, improving its ability to offer services such as Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) calculation through analysis of historical ocean data.
