MPC Capital buys BestShip stake from Wilhelmsen

Hamburg-based investment and asset manager MPC Capital has acquired a 50% stake in vessel performance management company BestShip, from Norwegian maritime group Wilhelmsen.

The move expands MPC Capital’s maritime services business into energy efficiency and performance management tools, with BestShip operating a digital IT platform that assesses and optimises the energy efficiency of commercial vessels.

The company provides data-driven insights to help shipowners and operators comply with environmental regulations, reduce emissions, and improve operational efficiency. Its services cater to around 450 vessels, serving owners, charterers, and ship managers.

“Maritime operators face increasing challenges in maintaining compliance with environmental regulations while optimising vessel performance,” said Christian Rychly, Managing Director Shipping at MPC Capital.

“BestShip’s tools address these needs by providing actionable insights for regulatory compliance and performance monitoring.”

BestShip, based in Hamburg, employs approximately 20 people.
