Washington State Ferries to upgrade crew dispatch system

Washington State Ferries (WSF) has signed a contract with Helm Operations to replace the agency’s legacy crew dispatching system with the web-based Helm CONNECT platform.

WSF, the largest ferry system in the US, operates 21 vessels across 10 routes and 20 terminals. The new platform will support core operational processes including watch and shift scheduling, position and vacation bidding, and crew training and qualifications.

Additional features include improved data transparency, payroll auditing, and regulatory compliance with both agency policies and US Coast Guard requirements.

“We are thrilled to partner with Helm CONNECT in the development of WSF’s Dispatch Replacement Project,” said Beth Stowell, Sr. Director of Fleet Operations for Washington State Ferries.

“This modern platform will replace our aging Automated Operation Scheduling System (AOSS), which no longer meets the processing and reporting needs of Washington State Ferries.”
