Kongsberg Maritime consolidates digital portfolio as part of restructuring

Kongsberg Maritime has announced plans to integrate its different digital applications under a single brand called Digital Ocean, as it prepares for its upcoming stock listing as an independent company.

Norwegian technology group Kongsberg has agreed to spin off its maritime division as an independent entity, with the stand-alone Kongsberg Maritime company set to be listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange in late April.

Kongsberg Maritime’s reshuffle of its digital products will bring together legacy software systems, including K-IMS, Vessel Insight, K-Fleet, and Coach, under the Digital Ocean banner to deliver a common data foundation to ensure consistency across onboard, onshore, and cloud-based tools.

The move will also see the launch of KM Performance, a new optimisation platform designed to cover the entire voyage cycle, from planning to reporting, using sensor data and manual inputs to provide an operational overview for decision-making.

Specific features include trim optimisation, weather-informed route planning, hull analytics, and automated reporting.

“Our vision for our digital portfolio is simple, focused, and built around creating real value for our customers,” said Alexandra Koefoed, Executive Vice President, Digital and Emerging at Kongsberg Maritime.

“Our mission is to support safer, smarter and more sustainable operations at sea. That’s the anchor point for everything we do. We’re here to be a trusted digitalisation partner – not just delivering technology, but guiding customers through their digital journey with solutions that actually make a difference, day-to-day.”

The company says that it expects to expand its digital portfolio through 2026, introducing new areas for other maritime segments to further centralise its digital offerings.
