ARC fleet to roll out crew safety technology

American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier (ARC) has announced a five-year agreement to deploy the LifeFinder crew safety platform across its fleet of 10 US-flagged Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessels.

The deployment follows a successful year-long pilot on the M/V Patriot that involved tailoring the technology to specific vessel layouts and operational requirements.

“LifeFinder enhances our ability to quickly determine the location of all crewmembers, and accelerate response coordination during potential incidents,” said Fred Finger, Senior Vice President, Fleet Strategy & Special Projects at ARC.

“When paired with our commitment to open communication and accountability between our afloat and shoreside teams, this technology strengthens our ability to identify risks early and respond effectively.”

The system uses personnel locator devices to provide the bridge and safety teams with immediate visibility of crew locations and status during drills. This positioning capability is designed to improve coordination and strengthen post-incident analysis for the fleet.

It also assists in the reporting process to reinforce continuous improvement across the fleet.

“Making life at sea safer requires more than compliance. It requires new technology built around real operational needs. Together with ARC, we have developed a system that directly addresses the challenges crews face in emergencies,” said Anders Schening, CEO of LifeFinder.

ARC operates the largest U.S.-flagged Ro-Ro fleet in international trade and is now moving forward with the full implementation of the technology across its managed vessels.
