Subsea 7, a UK-headquartered provider of offshore projects and services for the energy industry, has signed an agreement with Marlink for the provision of a global hybrid connectivity network system for its vessel fleet.
The fleet of chartered and owned vessels will be provided with a combination of VSAT with L-band back-up, global 4G cellular services and connection to the Tampnet offshore GSM network for regional operations in the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico.
The contract features guaranteed throughput, including an undisclosed Committed Information Rate (CIR) that Marlink says matches the levels “normally only found in the leisure/cruise sector.”
The Marlink XChange communications management platform is also included in the contract, which will be used to create separate networks for crew and business communications.
