Lloyd’s List Intelligence (LLI) has signed a partnership with satellite operator Kinéis to expand its satellite coverage and provide more accurate tracking for the global commercial fleet.
The agreement integrates Kinéis data as an option within the AIS SeaOrbis tracking system, which provides monitoring for shipowners, charterers, and financial institutions.
The addition of the French satellite operator’s data is intended to improve position accuracy and provide faster visibility of vessel movements in remote or congested maritime regions. Kinéis operates a constellation of 25 nanosatellites designed for high revisit rates and low latency, meaning vessel positions are updated frequently.
The system also features multi-strand antennas and anti-spoofing algorithms to distinguish legitimate signals from falsified data in busy shipping lanes.
The new data stream is expected to complement LLI’s existing terrestrial and shipborne AIS networks, which cover more than 12,000 ports and 550,000 unique vessels.
“To navigate the complexities of modern maritime trade, our customers require both depth of analysis and breadth of coverage,” said Parvin Conners, Chief Data Officer at Lloyd’s List Intelligence.
“This partnership with Kinéis strengthens the foundational AIS data our customers trust for unmatched global visibility.”
The integration is currently being rolled out to existing customers, following LLI’s recent efforts to expand its data ecosystem through additional partnerships focused on satellite imagery and behavioural analysis.
