Maritime tech private equity firm Motion Ventures has launched a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform named Motion Intelligence, designed to consolidate elements of the investment process within a single digital system.
The tool aims to address fragmentation in the investment value chain by integrating market research, deal sourcing, and evaluation functions that are typically managed across separate databases and documents.
The platform is designed to structure the full investment workflow, assisting teams in moving from initial opportunity discovery to firm conviction. By centralising information, the company says that the system should reduce the time required for analysts to prepare market overviews and investment materials manually.
A Market Intelligence function provides structured AI research into emerging sectors and technologies, generating overviews that include competitive landscapes and insights. Future updates are expected to include automated deal sourcing from connected databases and tools for evaluating pitch decks to assess risks and validate claims, the company said.
“Here’s the problem. The investment value chain today is fragmented. Analysts are forced to move between decks, market reports, internal notes, and a bunch of scattered context,” explains Shaun Hon, Founder and General Partner at Motion Ventures.
“What should be a sharp and high conviction process becomes slow and inefficient. The worst part? The most demanding steps have also become some of the least valuable. Building thesis decks, preparing investment materials, they all require a ton of time and effort before the information is even brought together in a form that the investment teams can work with.”
“Motion Intelligence is designed to act like a dedicated investment analyst working behind the scenes for you.”
The platform includes tools to support four distinct phases, starting with the development of an investment thesis based on emerging themes or sectors. The system can then surface relevant startups from connected databases that align with the defined thesis. In the evaluation phase, the platform can assess market opportunities, product differentiation, and potential risks.
The final stage involves the preparation of decision-ready materials, such as investment committee memos and diligence frameworks. This structured approach is intended to help teams identify opportunities earlier and provide greater clarity during the decision-making process.
The system has now been launched with early access for selected users by request.
The introduction of the new platform comes almost exactly one year after Motion Ventures announced plans to launch a new $100m maritime tech investment fund, aiming to deliver investments ranging from $250,000 to $10 million into at least 25 companies involved in the digitalisation and decarbonisation of the global maritime supply chain.
