TGS is to deploy Speedcast’s all-LEO connectivity system across its fleet of seismic streamer vessels and Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) operations.
The system will combine Starlink Dedicated Service with Eutelsat OneWeb and other LEO networks, managed through Speedcast’s SIGMA intelligent edge compute platform.
The connectivity is designed to support transmission of up to 10TB of seismic data per day at sustained upload speeds of 1Gbit/s, allowing full datasets to be transferred to onshore cloud infrastructure for processing.
This will reduce the need for high-performance computing (HPC) capacity onboard vessels, the company said, and allow processing geophysicists to work onshore rather than offshore rotations.
“Digitalisation at TGS is measured at the vessel, not in the strategy deck. The constraint has never been the data we can record; it’s the data we can move,” said Jérôme Cousin, Vice President Enterprise IT at TGS.
“The combination of high-performance connectivity and our cloud operating model allows us to securely manage and process ever-larger seismic datasets at unprecedented speed, reducing reliance on physical media and enabling near real-time data delivery.”
During testing of eight Starlink Performance kits using Dedicated Service, Speedcast says it recorded peak upload speeds of 950Mbps.
