EEXI calculation tool introduced by ClassNK

ClassNK has released a new EEXI Simplified Planner, an assessment tool for the IMO’s Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI), which will come into effect from 2023.

The software is used to provide an approximated calculation of a ship’s EEXI by inputting DWT and the engine MCR (maximum continuous rating), to check whether the vessel complies with the levels outlined in the regulation. If the result does not meet IMO requirements, the tool can suggest the extent of engine power limitations (EPL) needed for compliance and advise on steps to be taken.

The EEXI Simplified Planner is available for assessment of bulk carriers, gas carriers, tankers, container ships and RO-RO cargo ships, and is available on the EEXI page of the class society’s website.

In related news, ClassNK also notes that it is upgrading the functionality of its MRV Portal monitoring and reporting system to support improvements to vessels’ Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) rating, following the recent release of a separate evaluation tool for CII ratings.
