Solstad, Østensjø, Kongsberg Maritime, DeepOcean, and Remota have agreed a new partnership to pilot the use of remote Dynamic Positioning (DP) operations, with trials set to begin later this year aboard the offshore vessel Normand Sentinel.
The project will assess the viability of conducting DP operations from shore, aiming to improve operational flexibility and broaden recruitment options by decoupling the DP operator role from the physical vessel.
Remote operations will be managed from a Remota-run Remote Operations Centre (ROC). In the first phase of the pilot, Normand Sentinel and Østensjø’s Edda Freya will both be used, maintaining full onboard DP teams to ensure safety and enable performance benchmarking.
The project will also explore the feasibility of remote DP2 operations and evaluate more flexible models for offshore vessel control.
