Kongsberg Maritime has signed an agreement to acquire Swedish marine propulsion and electrical systems manufacturer Berg Propulsion for an undisclosed sum.
While the price wasn’t revealed, Kongsberg Maritime says that the transaction is priced at an enterprise value to EBITDA multiple in line with its current market valuation. The deal remains subject to customary regulatory approvals.
Berg Propulsion specialises in the design and manufacture of integrated propulsion systems. Following the completion of the transaction, Berg Propulsion will operate as a standalone business unit and separate brand within Kongsberg Maritime’s Propulsion & Handling division to preserve its existing corporate culture and operational agility.
“This acquisition is central in our growth plan and strengthens our ability to serve a broader range of customers and vessel segments,” said Lisa Edvardsen Haugan, CEO of Kongsberg Maritime.
“Berg Propulsion complements our portfolio in a highly attractive way, and together we will deliver greater value through a wider offering, stronger lifecycle support, and shared expertise.”
The integration is expected to unlock synergies in areas like global lifecycle support, with Berg Propulsion’s installed base of approximately 4,000 vessels gaining access to Kongsberg Maritime’s service network.
“Our businesses complement each other well, and together we can create new opportunities for our customers and employees,” said Philip Chaabane, CEO of Berg Propulsion.
“We look forward to contributing our strengths while also benefiting from Kongsberg Maritime’s global scale and aftermarket capabilities.”
In 2025, Berg Propulsion generated revenues of approximately €160 million. Kongsberg Maritime recorded revenues of NOK 27,123 million (approx. US$2.8 billion) for the same year.
